TOP 10 GHANAIAN YOUNG RAP COUNCIL

Rap music wasn’t popular until Reggie Rockstone introduced it in our local dialect as hiplife. It has evolved so much that now, rap stands on its own as a genre in Ghana. Rap music has done so well to put Ghanaian music on the world map. Some names that are aligned with rap music in Ghana are Sarkodie, M.anifest, E.L, etc. These 10 rappers are following suit of the big names mentioned.

1. TEEPHLOW

Spyder Lee Entertainment Label artiste, Teephlow, displays amazing lyricism, wordplay and great delivery, making a great impact in the African Hip-Hop diaspora. Since his emergence in hiphop rap contest, The Next Big Thing, Teephlow has brought a lot of competition and new wave to the rap scene in Ghana. Teephlow has “Phlowducation”, “Sei Hor” and “Riding” to his credit. He was also on the remix of “Egboama”, a song originally by Edem, and “Trumpet” which features Sarkodie and other rappers.

 

2 . MEDIKAL

Medikal, real name Samuel Adu Frimpong, is currently one of Ghana’s fastest rising and youngest hip hop artistes. He is currently signed to Criss Waddle’s AMG Business record label. The 24 year old rapper has amazing songs such as “By heart boy”, “Anthem”, “Ghost” and “Poof gang” to his credit. He also has collaborations with Sarkodie and Stonebwoy.

 

3. KOFI KINAATA

The Effiakuma born songwriter is known for his unique flow in Takoradi Fante rap and hence has earned the accolade, the Fante Rap God. Martin Kofi King Arthur has definitely made his mark in the rap business. Kofi has worked with the likes of Castro, Samini, Captain Planet, Donzy and Gallaxy. His “Confessions” showed what an amazing rapper, he is.

 

4. WORLASI

Worlasi is a beast of a rapper, producer, singer and songwriter. His songs have been praised for being refreshing and inspiring and his lyrics, unrestrained and African. Worlasi is an intriguing contrast: hyper confident yet humble, hungry for knowledge and simultaneously overflowing with it, overly optimistic but keen-sighted to life’s harsh realities. His breakthrough single, “Ay3 Adz3”, set him apart from his peers. His mixtape project, “Nus3”, was his first major project and it already has people calling him a god. He has worked and bagged features with artistes like EL, M.anifest, Hammer of Da Last Two, Sena Dagadu and shared songs with the likes of Sarkodie and Kwaw Kese.

5. B4BONAH

Fredrick Amoako Bonah, known by his stage name B4bonah, is a Ghanaian Hip-Hop/Hiplife artiste from Tema. The 27 year old entered the Ghanaian music industry with a very Big Bang. Even though he hasn’t been long in the industry, his presence and additions in industry can not be ignored. Bonah has “My Girl” with King Promise, “Dear God” with Sarkodie, “Devil is a liar” and “Wake up” with Kelvin Bwoy.

 

6. KOJO CUE

Linford Kennedy Amankwaa, better known by his stage name Ko-Jo Cue, is a Ghanaian Hip-Hop/Afro-Pop artiste from Kumasi, Ashanti Region. The 28 year old is currently signed to BBnZ Live and is affiliated to The Cue, a talent development group which he formed with producer Peewezel. In 2014, he dropped his mixtape The Shining to incredible reviews from critics. He has worked with Sarkodie, E.L, M.anifest, Mr. Eazi and Lil Shaker.

 

7. AKAN

The wow factor with this guy is his rap skills; his confidence, wordplay and style. What is even more refreshing is the fact that, he embodies the rap skills of several rap lords in Ghana. His debut EP is dubbed “Akan EP”. Quabena Akan is an excellent rapper and has worked with several artistes including Worlasi.

 

8. KWESI ARTHUR

Ghanaian rapper and singer, Kwesi Arthur is a resident of Tema. Kwesi is currently signed to GROUND UP. This amazing artist has one EP, “Live from Nkrumah krom”, to his credit. Kwesi’s most popular song which caught the attention of many Ghanaians is “Grind day”. However, he has been doing amazing work before then. He has worked with Omar Sterling, M.anifest, B4Bonah and KaySo.

 

9. STRONGMAN

Vincent Kwaku Osei, known as Strongman Burner won the hearts of Ghanaians on the “Next Big Thing” hiphop reality show in 2012 and hence, won the show. He proceeded to win the heart of Ghana’s best rapper, Sarkodie, who signed him on his record label, SarkCess Music. The 24 year old rapper has worked with Sarkodie, Akwaboah, Yaa Pono and Teephlow.

 

10. AYESEM

The Takoradi based rapper is signed to Shock Entertainment. His lyrical content has enabled him to work with Zeal of VVIP, Kofi Kinaata, Flow King Stone and Episode.
